Willie and his twin sister, Willette, were born on March 11, 1946, to John Henry Scott and Vurry Scott in Heth, Arkansas. Willie attended Heth Elementary School and Mildred Jackson High School until the 11th grade.
In the late 60s, Willie heard the call to "Go West" and he answered. He ventured to California as many people did to seek better opportunities. He lived with relatives and worked various odd jobs to help his mother and other family members. Family was always very important to Willie. He had a generous heart and was always kind to others, whether they were family, friends, or strangers. While working, he still had a strong desire to complete his education. He did so at Compton College where he proudly received his GED.
As the son of a godly Southern woman who insisted that he go to church, Willie accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. Until his health failed, he was a faithful member of New Commandment, which has been the family church for several generations. At his wife's suggestion, he became committed to help clean the church on a weekly basis, which he did for five years.
He was eventually employed at Alco Manufacturing in Santa Ana, California as an entry-level machinist. Over the course of his 30-year career, he was promoted to a Senior Machinist. Willie was so experienced at his job that after he retired, he received numerous calls from the company to repair their broken machinery. He was always willing to help out when needed. However, after being retired for six months the calls kept coming. He returned to work for a full year before permanently retiring. Afterward, he enjoyed meeting up with his former co-workers where they went out to eat and enjoyed each other's company.
Willie was previously married to Patricia Scott for 30 years before her untimely passing. In 2015, Willie met Helen Johnson-Charlton, and they were married August 2016, by Pastor Grady Jones. The couple loved to travel, and they visited Aruba, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean Islands. Willie also enjoyed going back to Arkansas for his High School Reunions. He loved listening to spirituals and oldies but goodies. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed basketball, football, bowling, and was in a bowling league at one time.
Both parents preceded Willie in death, as well as his second father Tom Thomas, Jr. affectionately known as "Papa TB," Willie's two brothers Milton Hale and Roger Thomas, and his daughter Valencia Scott. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Helen Johnson-Scott, his siblings; Melvin Scott, Willette Brown-Sykes, Jerline Thomas, Raymell Davis, Lavelle Thomas, Arbert Lee Thomas, Arbert Lloyd Thomas, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and many friends.
