In Loving Memory of our Beloved Mother Taanya Ann Carter who passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the age of 71.
Born to Patricia and Clovis Carter on the 29th day of August in the year of 1954, in Springfield, Ohio. Taanya grew up in Los Angeles, California.
She attended Laurel Elementary School and Fairfax High School in Los Angeles where she joined the swimming team. Not only was Taanya the top of her swim team, she grew to love music. In her young adult days, she was a backup singer for Sly and the Family Stone. Taanya Carter was also a self-proclaimed tax preparing entrepreneur until she retired.
Taanya was a beautiful singer, a wonderful writer of music, who also enjoyed listening to Teena Marie, baking, taking pictures, spending time with her family, and getting the most creative designs on her nails along with having the most unique hair color any one has seen. Taanya was known for her vibrant, outgoing, and comical personality. She will always bring laughter and light to any occasion.
Taanya is preceded in death by her mother Patricia Carter, her father Clovis Carter, and her brother Rohn Carter.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Her daugher Moieshai Carter; her two sons: Jovon Hayes and June Blassingame; her two grandchildren: granddaughter, Chrishaee' Fuentes; her grandson, Messi' Shaheed; and her great-grandson: Mason Griffin; her two brothers: Lon Carter and Don Carter; and her two sisters: Tosca Carter and Nasairah Carter.
Taanya also leaves to cherish her memory a host of friends. She will forever be loved and greatly missed.
