Patsy Cooksie was born on December 10, 1944 in Saint Louis, Missouri, to the union of Nathaniel and Louise Cooksie. Pat was the third of four daughters. On July 10, 1957, at the age of 12, she moved with her family to California. She completed her elementary education in Chicago and continued her junior high and high school years in Los Angeles (LAUSD), graduating from Manual Arts High School in 1963.
At just 14 years old, Pat met her high school sweetheart. On September 14, 1963, she married John W. Hill Jr., and from that union, one daughter, Sherri, was born. John preceded her in death.
In 1970, Pat began working at Pacific Bell as a telephone operator. Through hard work and dedication, she advanced through various positions and eventually served as an Operations Administrator from 1989 to 1995, when she retired. After retirement, she lovingly cared for several family members, starting with her mother.
Pat loved to travel and had a passion for dancing. Every Sunday, she could be found at The Post or Crenshaw Live, enjoying music and community. She accepted Christ at an early age and, in the early 1970s, joined the Church of the Living God. Although her health later prevented her from attending regularly, her faith remained important to her.
Pat was preceded in death by her father, Nathaniel, her mother, Louise, her sisters Jean, Brenda, and Delois, her grandson Anthony, granddaughter Amber, niece Kim, and great-nephew Jamari. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter Sherri, nephews Lorenzo and Ronald, great-nephews Brandon and Trevon, great-great-nephews Sage and Keyshaun, and great-great-nieces Casey, Sunshine, and Pisila.
