Obituary

On January 14, 1944, in Los Angeles, California, a beautiful baby girl was born to K.C. Harvey and Curley Buckins. They named her Patricia Ann Harvey, and from the very beginning, she possessed a bright spirit, inquisitive mind, and a remarkable voice - gifts that would carry her through a long life of faith, learning, and service to others.

Patricia spent her early childhood in Los Angeles before relocating to San Francisco with her family at the age of seven. She attended Ascot Elementary School in Los Angeles and later Raphael Weill Elementary School, Benjamin Franklin Junior High School, and graduated from Polytechnic High School in 1960 at just 16 years old, a testament to both her intelligence and determination.

Her love of learning was evident from an early age. Patricia was accepted to the University of California (Berkeley), an extraordinary accomplishment that reflected her academic excellence. However, after deciding to return to Los Angeles, she enrolled at El Camino Community College, where she studied liberal arts, the humanities, and foreign languages, with French and Spanish among her favorite subjects. Her formal education only deepened what would become a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

Patricia was a true intellectual. A voracious reader with an insatiable curiosity, her home was filled with books spanning mathematics, science, history, philosophy, spirituality, and languages. Family and friends often remarked that she was a "walking library," able to engage thoughtfully in conversations on nearly any subject. She possessed a rare gift for deep discussion, always encouraging others to think critically and seek understanding. She also loved writing poems, finding in verse another way to express the ideas and emotions that filled her mind.

Yet as brilliant as Patricia was, she was equally known for her heart. Pat was known for her kindness, warmth, and for bringing unmatched enthusiasm to every room she entered. Her joyful spirit, infectious laugh, genuine interest in others, and ability to make people feel seen and welcomed left a lasting impression on family, friends, church members, and everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Above all, Patricia's greatest passion was her love for Jesus Christ. Her faith inspired an unwavering commitment to studying the Bible, particularly biblical prophecy. She devoted countless hours to scripture and delighted in sharing God's Word with others.

Blessed with a powerful singing voice, Patricia became affectionately known as "the little woman with the big voice." Music was one of her greatest joys and a vital part of her ministry. After visiting and worshipping with many congregations, she found her spiritual home in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.

She became a faithful member of Ephesus Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Los Angeles, where she gave Bible Studies, supported numerous evangelistic revivals, and joyfully helped spread the Gospel. She later transferred her membership to Smyrna Seventh-Day Adventist, where she participated in Prayer Ministries and Prison Ministries. After moving to Richmond, California, she became a dedicated member of Rainbow Seventh-Day Adventist Church, faithfully serving in many capacities, including Ministry of Music, Leader of the Adventist Youth Society, Special Music Coordinator, and a member of the Hospitality Committee. Her willingness to servce reflected the depth of her faith and her love for God's people.

While Patricia cherished many things in life, nothing brought her greater joy than her children, Jonathan Harvey and Alexandria Owens, and her beloved grandchildren. A gifted teacher by nature, she created what became fondly known throughout the family as "Granny's School." Long before her grandchildren entered into kindergarten, she lovingly taught them their ABCs, numbers, reading skills, and a life-long appreciation for learning. She believed that education was one of the greatest gifts she could give, and generations of her family are better because of her devotion.

Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, K.C. Harvey and Curley Buckins; her sisters, Mary Gomez, Floris Green, Augustina Harvey, and Mary Harvey; and her brothers, Cary Harvey, Clemard Harvey, and Acy Harvey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Alexandria Owens (L'erin); her beloved son, Jonathan Harvey; her brother, Willie J. Harvey, Sr.; her sisters, Ettra Bates-Swift, Veronica Harvey, Freddie Harvey, and Jean Harvey; her cherished grandchildren, Erin (Danyelle), Aalijah (Thelmon), Zachary (Jayda), Morgan, and Kennedy Owens, Dayjon, Dayvon, Dayana, and Dayja Harvey; six treasured great-grandchildren; her beloved Eiden, Tobias, Aalani, Dayjon Jr., Darion, and Noah; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.

Patricia's legacy is one of faith, wisdom, music, education, kindness, and unconditional love. She demonstrated that true wealth is measured not by possessions, but by the lives we enrich, the knowledge we share, and the love we leave behind. Whether through a Bible study, a song of praise, a thoughtful conversation, or a lesson at "Granny's School."  Pat poured herself into others with generosity and grace.

Though her earthly voice has been silenced, the songs she sang, the scriptures she taught, the wisdom she shared, and the love she poured into her family will continue to echo through generations.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant...enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." Matthew 25:23
