Katie Mae Couch Liddell was born on October 10, 1942, to Gaston and Georgia Couch, who preceded her in death in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the second child and the only sister of three younger brothers. She attended and graduated from Hadley High School in St. Louis, Missouri in 1962.
Katie Mae was the loving mother of four children. After the birth of her first child, Maurice, she moved to Los Angeles, California, in 1963. There, she met and married Willie Liddell. Their union lasted 63 beautiful years and was blessed with three children.
In 1975, Katie Mae accepted Christ into her life at Temple of Believers Community Church where Wilburn Liddell Sr. is the current pastor. She became a faithful member from the time the church first opened its doors. She served faithfully as a choir member and director, food committee member (Katie's Kitchen), prayer warrior, and youth choir leader (Little Angels). She remained a faithful member until her passing.
Katie Mae was known and loved by many. Throughout her life, she was called by many different names by family and friends. She was well known throughout her neighborhood for over 60 years and she maintained a close relationship with all of her neighbors, who all called her Grandma. Katie Mae was truly a people person. No one was ever a stranger to her. She opened her heart and home to many and made everyone feel loved and welcomed especially at her dinner table where anyone could stop by and grab a meal.
Katie Mae devoted 20 years of her life to caring for children as a childcare provider. She lovingly nurtured and cared for many children as if they were her own, leaving a lasting impact on their lives. The love, guidance, and kindness she shared created bonds that endured throughout the years, with many of the children she cared for remaining in contact with her well into adulthood.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Willie Liddell and children Maurice and Cynthia Couch, Darryl Liddell, Gloria Turney, Tara and Mac Baldridge, and Re'Gence Liddell and Jimmy Sparks and adopted son James Isles, Jr. She also leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren: Kieshana, Karmisha, Crystal, Leonard (Skip), Maurice Jr., Rodnika (Tina), Eva, Markita, Michael (Mike), Darryl Jr., Darrell, DJ, Daquisha, Tynisha, Taja, Taizha, Tanasha, and Isaac. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Isaiah.
In addition, she was blessed with one adopted grandson, Bryson, and four adopted granddaughters, De'yana, Don'yai, Kesha, and K'La (Wudgzie). Katie Mae was also the proud and devoted granny to over 30 great-gandchildren, one god-daughter Rainie, and Her Ride or Die Shannon (Mama-Cita) Hamlett each of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
