Johnita Marie Rhone

June 5, 1967 — June 24, 2025

Johnita Marie Rhone was born on June 5, 1967, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi to Phillip Williams and Peggy Bush. Johnita spent her formative years at West Adams Elementary School, Henry Clay Junior High School and Locke High School.

She spent her life between California and Mississippi. She worked alongside her father at the family's cherished BBQ restaurant.

Johnita was a true force of nature and had a gift for bringing people together. Most importantly, she loved her children. She lived for holidays, birthdays, and any excuse to gather around those she loved. Whether it was through her warm heart, her joyful spirit, cocktails or the aroma of something delicious simmering on the stove, she made everyone feel at home. It did not matter if it was your kitchen or her own, the door was always open. Johnita's meals were more than just food; they were expressions of love and care, shared with family, friends, and sometimes even strangers who quickly became like family.

She had a way of keeping it honest and telling it like it was, whether you like it or not. But her truth came from a place of deep love, and you always knew where you stood with her. She spoke her mind, loved with her heart, and never held back.

Johnita had a laugh that could fill a room - unforgettable, infectious, and full of life. It was the kind of laughter that made ordinary moments unforgettable and reminded everyone around her of the joy in everyday living.

In her spare time, she found peace and happiness in simple pleasures - crocheting beautiful pieces by hand, completing intricate puzzles, and doodling little works of art that reflected her whimsical spirit. She was also known for lighting up any dance floor with her incredible rhythm and passion for the cha cha, a dance she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her father Phillip Williams, her mother Peggy Bush, sisters Adele Holmes and Jacqueline Williams, son Monzell Ford, and daughter Demetria Hammond.

Johnita leaves behind a legacy of love, truth, laughter, and strength. She is survived by her sister Sandra Chubbs, brothers Alfred Taylor and Sylvester Brickley, 3 children Lawanda Wells, Lamar Chapman, and Remania Hammond. Fourteen grandchildren, aunties, uncles, cousins, and countless friends and loved ones who were touched by her beautiful life.

Though she is no longer with us in person, her spirit continues with every shared meal, family gathering, and burst of laughter that echoes through the lives she touched. Her presence was a gift and her memory was a blessing. Johnita's laugh, love, and realness will never be forgotten.
