Geraldine Eloise Lansdowne was born on July 16, 1941 to her parents Gerald E. Lansdowne and Jeminia Lansdowne in Jefferson City, Missouri. She was the 3rd born of 4 children: Rosemary, Joan, Geraldine, and David.
Geraldine attended Compton Ave Elementary School, Bret Harte Jr. High School, and Jordan High School. She worked for LAUSD from 1968-2007, when she retired.
Geraldine met and dated Billy Hicks. They fell in love and married on July 13, 1959. In this union, they planted 5 beautiful seeds: Billy Jr., Michele, Aman, Amanda, and Gerald.
Geraldine was very family oriented. She enjoyed hiking, camping, bike riding, playing ping pong. She loved supporting her children and grandchildren in every extracurricular activities they were involved in, i.e. sports, cheerleading, campfire, etc..., watching the Lakers, Tyler Perry movies, Family Feud with Steve Harvey as the host, all the court shows, especially Judge Judy and Judge Mathis. Family was everything to her. She kept up with family history, organized the family reunions for both the Hicks family and Lansdowne sides of the family. She has made multiple collages with the many photos that she has taken over the years, keeping the family history documented in color.
Geraldine was the bonus mom to many of the children on Washington Ave and beyond. She would take everyone bike riding on the riverbed all the way to the Pike in Long Beach. She took all the children hiking in Alta Dena and Griffith Park, her favorite spot.
All of her children were spoiled in one way or another, especially the boys...lol...Hotie definitely was her favorite middle child, Bill her favorite first born, and Gerald her favorite baby boy. Michele always said that Amanda was the favorite daughter, but Amanda thought otherwise. But one thing for sure, we all knew mom loved us more than anything. She lived her life showing us just that. She will truly be missed.
