It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edwin Delano Sled, Jr., a cherished father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He departed this world on May 20, 2026 after a courageous battle with prostate cancer, which he faced with unwavering strength and determination for four years. He was 65 years old.
Born on September 19, 1960, in Fontana, California, Ed (or "Eddie") was the beloved son of Edwin Delano Sled and Reva June Hansen, and the oldest of five children. He was preceded in death by his dear parents and his beloved partner and mother of his children, Margaret Mary McAlarney.
Ed is survived by his devoted son, James P. McAlarney, his loving daughter, Page M. Sled, and his treasured grandchildren: Adelynn M. McAlarney, Isla J. McAlarney, and Arielle M. Sled, who brought immense joy to his life. Ed was also survived by his four siblings, James Sled, Tammy Covarrubias, Terri Covarrubias, and Kimberly Nagy. His legacy of love and laughter continues through them.
Ed would spend most of his life living in Fontana. During his younger years, he enjoyed fishing with his dad and being outdoors. He learned a passion of working on cars while watching his dad. He would spend the rest of his life taking care of and raising his two children after suffering the loss of the mother of his children, Margaret, to a heart attack in 2007.
Ed's life was enriched by his passions - none more cherished than the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He took immense pride in being a grandpa, finding joy in every moment spent with his family, whether watching his favorite shows with his sister Terri over the phone, or cheering on his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers during the NFL season. Ed's life was filled with simple pleasures and profound love. His warmth and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone he met. Ed had a unique ability to make others feel valued and understood, always ready to lend a helping hand. His legacy is one of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to family.
