Donna R. Stewart

Donna Ruth Stewart, born October 14, 1948, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 21, 2023. She was 75 years old. 

Donna was the daughter of the late Boise and Corinne Mitchell of Venice, CA. Donna was a beloved sister to Larry and Roland Mitchell. She was preceded in death by her sister Margie Jean Addison and brothers Ronald and Boise Mitchell. She was the former wife of the late Fred Stewart and a loving mother to three children: Leland and Alicia Stewart, and Walter Chism. Daughter in law Lynette Williams. Donna leaves behind a legacy of love and a large family, including 10 grandchildren: Leland, London, Lemar (RIP), Leon, Leila, Leilani, Shannel, Raquel, Barry Jr., Solomon Hassen and 11 great-grandchildren.

In her youth, Donna showed unwavering determination and courage as she battled on the front lines during the American Civil Rights movement. Her passion for justice and equality remained with her throughout her life. Later, in her community of Venice, California, she became an outspoken advocate, dedicated to improving the lives of those around her.

One of her most significant contributions was her involvement in founding the annual Venice Community Day Parade. Donna's vision and leadership helped create a cherished event that brings the Venice community together, fostering unity and celebrating diversity. Donna's impact on her family, friends, and community will always be remembered. Her legacy serves as an enduring reminder of the importance of standing up for what one believes in and the power of a strong, loving family. Donna Ruth Stewart's memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know and love her.
