Bruce Thomson Zwissler

September 7, 1945 — April 30, 2025

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA

Bruce Thomson Zwissler, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 30, 2025, due to complications from diabetes. He was born on September 7, 1945, in Youngstown, Ohio to Gordon Arthur Zwissler and Helen Marian Thomson Zwissler. Bruce grew up in the Ontario/Upland California area and then attended Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga. After transferring to and graduating from Northwestern University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering, he returned to Rancho Cucamonga in his prized red super 90 Porsche to find and marry the love of his life, Lorene Broersma, whom he had met at Chaffey College. They were happily married for 52 years.

A lifelong real estate investor and developer in the Inland Empire, Nevada and Arizona. He also worked in multiple family businesses, including at Highland Gardens in Upland, growing gerbera daisies and amaryllis lilies.

Bruce’s life will be remembered as a great adventure, including driving across the United States on a motorcycle, being picked up by a tornado and thrown into a pile of scrap metal, and racing his brother in their Porsches up to Crestline, California where they lived. In 2023 his Porsche was restored, and he was able to ride along with Lorene on PCH, a trip which was featured in Porsche 356 magazine and @Type7.

A lover of John Wayne and World War II movies, his greatest joy was being around his large family, and camping in Mammoth with his sons, Andrew, Peter and Michael. He also was the best grandpa, always willing to sneak cookies and sit on the floor and play. He will be remembered as a regular at Cask and Cleaver, and Brandon’s Diner, and as someone who would never shy away from sharing his opinion. He was a vocal and passionate advocate for his sons during their swim and water polo meets at Red Hill Country Club, Hillside Aquatics and at Rancho Cucamonga High School.

Bruce is preceded in death by his son Peter Zwissler, his father Gordon and mother Helen, and his brother James Zwissler of Claremont. He is survived by his wife Lorene Broersma of Rancho Cucamonga, son Andrew Zwissler (and wife Kelly Zwissler) of Rancho Cucamonga, son Michael Zwissler (and wife Juliana Zwissler) of Tustin, grandchildren: Matthew Zwissler, Elayne Zwissler, Ruth Zwissler and Helen Zwissler; his sister Carol Ridings (and husband Jim Ridings) of Corona, brother Doug Zwissler (and wife Marylin Zwissler) of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and sister-in-law Wendy Zwissler of Claremont.

A Celebration of life for Bruce will be held at Cask and Cleaver on June 14, 2025.
