Arlean Woodson was born on March 8, 1942, in Hazlehurst, Mississippi. She was the fifth of seven children born to the union of Willotis Sanders and Verlee Sanders. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.
At a young age, Arlean relocated with her family to Los Angeles, California, where she was raised and educated in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She proudly graduated from Centennial High School in Compton, California, in 1959, marking the beginning of a life filled with purpose, perseverance, and style.
Arlean enjoyed a long successful career beginning at Magnavox Electronics, and later continuing at TRW Aerospace, as a Lab Technician. With dedication and excellence, she served for 30 years before retiring in 1989.
At an early age, Arlean accepted Christ and was baptized at Paradise Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor A.J. Iverson. There, she met the love of her life, Felix Woodson. They were united in holy matrimony on June 2, 1962, and together built a beautiful life, raising two children, Eric Shannon and Valerie Sheiron.
In 1981, Arlean moved her church membership to True Zion Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until Pastor Felix Woodson was called home to be with the Lord. She later united with Second Mount Carmel Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Eric Woodson, where she continued to serve with love, faith, and devotion until her passing.
Arlean was known for her vibrant personality and her gift of conversation, affectionately nicknamed "The Typewriter." She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, and expressing herself through fashion - especially hats, shoes, and St. John knits. She had a deep love for people, particularly children, and was fiercely protective of her children and grandchildren, proudly serving as their "defense attorney." Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her grandchildren. She delighted in sweets, and she will forever be remembered for her famous Blue Ribbon Potato Salad.
On January 14, 2026, Arlean Woodson joyfully completed her earthly assignment. God gently called her from labor to reward, granting her eternal rest, and peace as she awaits the glorious reunion of all the redeemed.
She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life: her son, Eric (Kenmoria) of Inglewood, California; her daughter, Valerie (John) of Compton, California; six grandchildren - Brandon Durrell, Brandon Maurice, Erica, Courtnee, LaJon, and Brodey; two great-grandchildren, Brandon Jr. and Brennen; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, dear friends, and all whose lives were brighter because she was in them.
